This piece was one of the few I’ve written almost completely on a keyboard before jumping into notation software to flesh out the details. It is a slow, emotional piano piece that focuses around a melody and its dissonance with the underlying chords and arpeggios. Not terribly complicated, but I thought it was pretty.

In the midst of playing Final Fantasy 7, I was struck by a tragedy I wasn’t expecting. Thankfully for me, I had quite a bit of free time at that point in my life, and I spent the next couple of days writing a piano piece as a response to it. It isn’t based too much on the original “Aeris Theme” from the game, although I may have unconsciously drawn on it.
